How do our UVC disinfection lights work?

Our disinfection lamps use tightly-focused ultraviolet light to control pathogens. Our lights are specially-designed to emit light in the 254nm wavelength, which damages the genetic material of living cells.  This prevents pathogens such as viruses and bacteria from growing on surfaces and in the air.

Is UVC disinfection right for my business?

Which microbes does UVC disinfection destroy?

Decades of clinical research have demonstrated that UVC disinfection damages the genetic material of all living cells. No microbe has been shown to be unaffected by UVC disinfection, making it an effective method for quickly disinfecting large areas of your premises.

Although UVC disinfection inhibits the spread of all pathogens, it is not equally effective against all of them. Clinical trials have shown that UVC disinfection has some efficacy against Class 2 and 3 viruses, which include coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2.

Is special staff training necessary to use UVC disinfection?

UVC light is not harmful if used correctly. Staff must be aware that UVC radiation can cause damage to skin and exposed areas of the body, and that they should not enter a room where UVC disinfection is being used.

Our UVC lights are equipped with 3D motion sensors, so they automatically disengage before anyone enters the disinfection area. Remote controls also allow for safe manual activation or deactivation, so the risk of exposure is kept to a minimum.

How often should I use UVC disinfection?

We generally advise daily disinfection with our UVC products. This is dependent on the size of the area to be disinfected, as well as the requirements of your business. Your user manual will feature detailed information on the ideal disinfection cycle for your premises.

How quickly can we get UVC disinfection products?

Our current delivery time for UVC lights is between 6 and 10 weeks. This is subject to change, and we recommend contacting us directly with your requirements.

Is UVC disinfection harmful to people?

UVC radiation is harmful to all living cells. Prolonged exposure to UVC radiation can cause temporary irritation of the skin. Parts of the body that aren’t covered by skin, such as the eyes, mouth, and any open wounds, are more vulnerable to damage.

What if someone walks into the disinfection area while the light is on?

Our UVC disinfection lights incorporate sensor suites that detect movement outside of the disinfection area. The light will switch off when it senses movement nearby. Once the area is clear, the lamp will reactivate and complete its scheduled disinfection cycle. Before reactivating, the lamp will emit an audible alert for 20 seconds.

Does UVC radiation pass through windows?

Almost all glass prevents UVC radiation from passing through. If windows are sited near areas where employees will regularly pass, you should check that the glass will reflect UVC radiation.

How long does UVC disinfection take to work?

The time it takes to disinfect an area can vary widely. Our products allow for cycles as short as 15 minutes, though many clients choose to run their UVC disinfection lights overnight. We will help you to choose the right cycle length for your requirements.

Is it easy to install UVC disinfection lights?

Our products are no harder to install than standard light fittings. Our U10 lamp simply screws into a standard E27 or E40 bulb socket, while our U12 bar light can be easily installed by a trained electrician.
